Richard Amelius


Richard Amelius Richard Amelius is an innovative and versatile director, choreographer, and writer with over fifty shows to his credit. He most recently directed the World Premier of Time Between Us at New York Musical Festival as well as Riverdale Rising Stars’ summer production of Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. He has produced work for a number of theatres and companies around the country including The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, The Walt Disney Corporation, The NBA, The AIDS Coalition, Northern Stage, Millbrook Playhouse, and the Bucks County Playhouse among others.Mr. Amelius founded and serves as Artistic Director of Delaware River Theater Collective in New Hope, PA. He served as Artistic Director of NewART Theatre Company for two years where his work was nominated for two Perry Awards. He then served as Assistant Artistic Director of The Media Theatre, Production Stage Manager for the 2004 Grand Gala starring Tony Award Winner Betty Buckley, and director and choreographer for Joseph…Dreamcoat, The Wizard Of Oz, Sweet Charity, Forever Plaid, and Lippa’s The Wild Party. Under his supervision, productions and actors garnered six Philadelphia Barrymore Award nominations including three for Mr. Amelius himself: Two for “Best Choreography” for Sweet Charity and Cabaret and one for “Best Leading Actor in a Musical” for his portrayal of the Emcee in Cabaret.

After that he spent five seasons at Forestburgh Playhouse in the Catskill Mountains as Associate Artistic Director. He directed and choreographed productions of Rent, Hairspray, Cats, Footloose, Hair, and Wish You Were Here as well as choreographing and performing in Les Misérables, Show Boat, Oklahoma!, Funny Girl, West Side Story, South Pacific, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Grease, The Full Monty, Carousel, Annie, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
