- Parent Observation Day for Miss Shannon’s classes only for the following Tuesday classes: Ballet 2 (5:30-6:15), Ballet 3 (6:15-7:15), and Int. Ballet (7:15-8:15): November 25
- Parent Observation Week: December 14-18, 2014
- Recital: June 21st, 2014
There will be NO classes on the following days this year:
Sept.24th- No classes after 5pm
Sept. 25th- No class
October 8th- No class after 5pm
October 9th- No class
October 15th- No class after 5pm
October 16th- No class
November 26-30th- No class (Thanksgiving holiday)
December 21- Jan. 1st– No class (Holiday Break)
Jan. 18, 19th- No class (MLK Day)
February 15-22nd– No class (Winter Break)
April 5th- April 9th– No class (Spring Break- classes resume on April 12th)
May 24th-25th– No class (Memorial Day)
2014-2015 Riverdale Dance! Guidelines and Information
Thank you so much for joining us in our 6th year of Riverdale Dance! We are all so thrilled to teach and provide a warm and structured environment for our students to experience the joy of dance.
*** PLEASE MAKE SURE WE HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. Email is the primary source of communication for all class, recital and costume information. Throughout the year, we will be communicating important class information via email so you don’t want to miss out.
Invitation Only classes: dancers are individually invited based on previous skill level. If you are a new student and have previous dance experience, please contact the directors, Kelly d’Amboise and Pamela Vlach, for placement at riverdaledance@gmail.com.
Substitute teachers may teach classes when teachers are absent from class.
Director and teachers reserve the right to move students to different class levels based on their level of technique. Director and teachers at the Riverdale Y reserve the right to remove students from class due to behavioral issues and/or inappropriate behavior in class.
Snow Days: If classes are cancelled due to bad weather, your dancer can make up the missed class by attending any of our other classes that are age appropriate. Please check with your teacher to see which class would be appropriate to use as a make-up. All cancelled snow day classes will be communicated via email.
Recital: The Recital performance this school year will be held on June 21, 2015. Time TBA. Please hold the whole day for Recital! All dancers participating in the recital must also be available June 17th, June 18th, and June 19th for tech and dress rehearsals, so please mark your calendars now for 3-8 PM those three days. Dancers will not need to be there the whole time, but attendance at tech and dress rehearsals is mandatory. We do our best to get our younger dancers in and out as early as possible. All dancers who participate in the same class September thru June are invited to participate in the recital. Dancers who join for only 2nd semester are invited to participate on a case by case basis. If dancers choose to participate in the recital, they must adhere to the absence policy for the second semester. Please mark your calendars for June 17, 18, 19 and 21st. Attendance is mandatory for all rehearsals and recital performance if your dancer chooses to perform in the recital. The recital performance is such a fun, rewarding and exciting time for our dancers.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Dancers may not be absent more than 3 times total during the 2nd semester. If a dancer is absent more than 3 times, the teacher and director reserve the right to pull them from the recital on a case by case basis. This policy has been put in place to support our dancers and teachers who are working hard toward their personal technique and recital performances. When students miss a number of classes, they may fall behind. This circumstance is neither fair to that particular dancer nor to his/her peers and teacher. Please observe and respect our attendance policy. We aim to provide an environment that strives to challenge our young dancers and help them grow in a supportive and warm environment.
Recital Costumes: There will be a costume fee of $62 for dancers registered in classes for ages 8 and older and $55 for dancers registered in classes for ages 7 and under. Costume fees are due December 4, 2014. You will receive a reminder e-mail in November. Costumes are non-refundable as each costume is custom made for the dancers. We will do our best to exchange for sizing purposes. Students will be responsible for providing their own dance shoes and tights for the recital. We will send out a complete list of what type of tights and shoes each class number requires during the 2nd semester. Please note that all jazz shoes should be tan in color for Recital 2015.
Recital Tickets: Admission will be charged for the recital at $10/ticket. Children 3 and under are free (if they can sit on a lap). Each family is able to purchase 4 tickets to the show. There is a wait list for additional tickets and requests are almost always fulfilled.
Parent Observation Day is on the last day of classes in December. The dancers will present a regular class along with an in-studio performance of a piece they have been working on. All parents are welcome to attend their dancer’s normal class time.
